Thomas Redding
Thomas Redding took a rather unconventional path in becoming a remodeling professional after graduating from Davidson College with a degree in German. His interest in German began when he was a high school exchange student in Austria. While in college he had the opportunity to travel around the world and spent a year studying in Germany. After completing his undergraduate work he spent a year working with the Sea Pines Company as a member of the project team developing the plans for Kiawah Island, South Carolina. He later pursued his MBA, graduating from the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business. Then, working as an auditor at Price Waterhouse in D.C., he became a CPA.
Work History
Deciding he didn’t want to perform audits the rest of his life, Thomas went to work at a real estate firm, buying older hotels and apartment buildings, renovating them, and managing the properties. From there, he held executive positions for a corporate leasing company and two electronic direct response companies. He was actively involved in expanding this retailing method into Europe, Asia and South America.
His passion
All the while, his heart remained in the construction business, a love he developed working summers and vacations with construction companies in his youth. So when he made the career change to join his family’s remodeling company in business development, he found his niche. After several years, he acted on his desire to create a business based on his own ideas of how a professional remodeling company should be run and opened Thomas Designs & Construction.
The difference
His background in the corporate world, combined with his attention to detail and customer service, has made Thomas a sought-after contractor in the Washington, D.C. area.
